Are you having one of those days where nothing sounds appealing and you’re just in a funk? Disgust is a normal, valid emotion and we’re here to help you pack your toolkit with evidence-based tips that will help you to better understand what you’re going through right now. 

Here are GUS’s tips to help:

Carve out time for you

Is there something small you can do to bring a moment of joy or peace into your day? Maybe taking a walk outside between meetings or getting up before your roommates to have some quiet time to journal or read.

Practice mindfulness

Meditating, going to a yoga class, or simply pausing and focusing on your breath can help you relax and lower stress levels.

GUS’s top tips for when your child is having one of those “meh” days

Have you noticed that your child seems to be “icked” out by most everything? Maybe they aren’t interested in doing the things that they typically enjoy and are unable to articulate the reasons for their aversion. This is a valid emotion and we’re with tools to help you better connect with your child during those “blech” moments. 

Here are GUS’s tips to help:

Actively listen to your child

Let them know they are being heard by eliminating distractions, making eye contact, nodding, and using empathetic statements like, "I understand why you might feel that way." You can even repeat back what they say.

Get creative

Coloring can be a great activity to reduce stress. Show off your artistic skills and share a photo to social media tagging @hellobendhealth so we can see your creations.

Start a gratitude practice

Encourage your child to write down or draw pictures of what they're thankful for. Gratitude is shown to improve our mental and physical well-being. You can model it by journaling right along with them!

Take time to track moods

Take time to remind your kiddo or teen that all feelings are valid. Give them permission to feel a range of things, like sadness, jealousy, anger, etc. Consider hanging a mood chart in your home so that they can start putting a name to how they feel.
